Emerging proof for "BRIC" criminal syndicate activity

London, UK - 23 January 2004, 15:30 GMT - There is mounting evidence to demonstrate that global criminal syndicates originating from Brazil, the Russian Federation, the Indian sub-continent and China (BRIC) are increasingly using the internet and physical means to conduit the exchange and distribution of counterfeit audio, video and computer gaming products both within their domestic markets and across the OECD countries. This has become a multi-billion dollar racket encompassing other organised criminal activities such as credit card fraud and money laundering; human trafficking; fraud and extortion through spam, phishing and DDoS; pornography; drug trafficking; and small arms smuggling.
